V ^ay 30—Free movie at Village jjV^atre, “American Empire” with ^“'^hard Dix and Leo Carrillo, ^^^ture starts at 1320 and 1455. .^plete show one hour, 31 min- Cadet Awarded Silver Star at Ceremony A REGIMENTAL REVIEW featured the ceremonies held in Kenan Stadium last Sunday to mark the first anniversary of this Pre-Flight School. On the right is shown one of the highlights of the day, Comdr, John P. Graff, USN (RM.), Commanding Officer, decorating Cadet Anthony E. Kujawinski with the Silver Star. As a special highlight of the an niversary celebration in Kenan Stadium last Sunday, Cadet An thony E. Kujawinski, 22nd Bat talion member from Grand Rap ids, Mich., was awarded the Sil ver Star Medal “for gallantry and intrepidity in action” against the enemy. The presentation was made by Comdr. John P. Graff, USN (Ret.), Commanding Officer of the U. S. Navy Pre-Flight School here. It was the second award re ceived by the former Marine cor poral since he reported here as a naval aviation cadet, the first be ing the Purple Heart with which he was decorated last month. The citation made by the Com mander in Chic'f, United States Atlantic Fleet, in awarding the Silver Star Medal to Kujawinski, reads as follows: ^ ^ _ “For gallantry and intrepidity in action as a member of the crew of an anti-aircraft gun of the USS Brooklyn during the lassault on and occupation of hostile terri tory. “Kujawinski was wounded by hostile shellfire during an engage ment with hostile surface vessels. As soon as his wound was dressed he voluntarily returned imme diately to his gun. “The fighting spirit and merito rious conduct under fire displayed by Kujawinski lare in keeping with the highest traditions of the Naval Service.” During the course of the color ful anniversary ceremonies last Sunday, Lt. Comdr. Harvey' J. Harman, USNR, director of ath letics who is being transferred to another post, was given la silver plaque as a token of esteem from the Pre-Flight officers and cadets, the presentation being made by Comdr. Graff. Dean Francis Bradshaw, of the University of North Carolina, ex tended the university’s greetings to the Pre-Flight School on its first anniversary. He acclaimed the part that cadets trained here would play in winning the war against the Axis powers. Dean Bradshaw spoke for Dr, Frank P. Graham, UNC president, who was scheduled to deliver the principal address, but was unable to be pres ent because of duties elsewhere. The ceremonies were featured by a Regimental Review, and mu sic for the occasion was furnished by the Pre-Flight band. 11th V-5 Course Begins The 11th V-5 officer indoctrina tion course, including 133 future instructors, began at the Pre- Flight School here last Thursday.
